MHSAA Guidelines

A STREAMING/BROADCASTING REMINDER -

No matter how you slice it, the
transmission/distribution of an athletic event - whether by streaming, over-the-air broadcast, cable, etc. - is still subject to MHSAA rules.

Just a few reminders as we approach the tournament season:

For regular-season events, live and on-demand AUDIO is OK.

On-demand
video is OK, but schools are PROHIBITED by MHSAA HANDBOOK regulations from appearing on a game which has live video being broadcast on any platform - including social media.

There is an exception for schools
doing such productions on their own, which must be arranged for in advance through the MHSAA Office. For MHSAA post-season tournament events, applications to secure broadcast rights must be submitted, paid for and approved by the MHSAA Office in advance.  Requests may be submitted to broadcast audio on a live or on-demand basis; and requests may be submitted for on-demand video of any event not being produced by the NFHS Network or FOX Sports Detroit.  Regardless of the platform being used - streaming, over-the-air broadcast, cable, etc. - and whether it's on a media outlet's website or through its social media presence - the rights
must be secured in advance.

The same rules apply to individuals as
well.

In a world of test scores, content standards & benchmarks, and evaluation fears, sometimes the main purpose can be pushed aside, even forgotten.  That is the kids.  Plain and simple they are the heart of what we do.  Let me be the reminder...
