Hey There Shepherd!
Once again getting back on track with ‘Getting To Know Shepherd People” here is the June 1st, 2014. Getting to know people, communicating with them, and finding out what they are about is a crucial key to successful teamwork, a successful school. I am going to continue to do my best to post something about the special people involved at Shepherd Public schools the first Sunday of each month.
Today I want to present you with another ‘home-grown’, unsung hero who tends to go unnoticed…
His name is Mr. John Cline, and he was born and raised in Shepherd forty-six (46) years ago. He graduated from Shepherd Public Schools, attended Northwood University, and has been a proud member of the community ever since. John works as a Route Salesman for Aunt Millie's Bakeries for the past 27 years. On a daily basis he makes sure all of his accounts on his route are stocked with product and his customers are 100% satisfied.
When not working at the bakery, John is Vice President on the Shepherd Public Schools Board of Education and also the President of the area Pony/Colt baseball league. Both keep him hopping and running from place to place ensuring the students, school employees, the community, players, and coaches get the best of everything. In the past he was the assistant coach for Shepherd’s Junior Varsity baseball in 2004. He stopped so Travis didn't have his dad coaching him all through ball. He did manage to come back again in 2013 as an assistant coach to Shepherd’s Varsity baseball in 2013. John finds it hard to stay away from something he is passionate about and loves.
I snuck behind John’s back to obtain most of my information (He had NO idea) and went to his wife Marsha who was a GREAT help! Marsha quoted John as saying the best part about being from Shepherd is, “It’s a small town and you pretty much know everyone. I am from a huge family from Shepherd, and so is his wife. We are surrounded by family and friends! That is a great feeling and a sense of security itself.”
John has been married to Marsha Cline for 26 years. They have three sons Travis, Chad, and Ryan, all who have graduated from Shepherd, (Ryan graduates today with the class of 2014!) The Cline’s have one teacup Yorkie along with their sons’ two dogs who are currently living at home with Mom & Dad!
As for hobbies, John doesn’t really have time. He has always given every spare minute to all three boys and their baseball. He has coached them and volunteered with anything another coach may need help with. When he does get some extra time, he loves to hunt with his boys and Marsha, along with golfing, camping, and boating with his family.
The Cline’s are dedicated to baseball. They travel together to Florida every year and spend time with the family while Spring Training goes on. And the travels know NO bounds to the Clines. For the past two years, John & Marsha have gone to California to watch Chad and Ryan in the World Series. There they stayed in Long Beach and went to the Dodgers’ and Angels’ ballparks. They also went to Hollywood and Beverly Hills and then drove to Las Vegas for a day. John has also traveled to Colorado to visit his brother Ron.
Through Marsha again I found out his Grandpa Cline inspired him. He was a hard worker and always had funny sayings. He always talks about his grandpa. And that is where his favorite quote came from...his grandpa Cline. "She aint for purdy but she is for stout." He cracks up laughing every time he says it.
All I know is John Cline’s Shepherd roots run deep with solid ties to the community, the people, and the school here. I have had two out of three of his boys in my classes, and they are amazing, honest, responsible young men. I see that as a direct reflection on their parents. John & Marsha are great parents who bleed ‘blue & gold’ when it comes to Shepherd.
Thank you John for all the hard work and dedication you bring to your work, your family, your community, and the Shepherd Public Schools. (And special thanks to Marsha for her ‘covert’ help!)
Remember, I am going to do my best to post something about the special people involved at Shepherd Public schools. Look for it the first Sunday of each month.
