Hey There Shepherd!

Getting back on track with ‘Getting To Know Shepherd People” (and yes I know I said the 1st Sunday of each month…  and this is the second… but you know how I HATE Math and I thought Monday was the 1st… cut me some slack… please…). Getting to know people, communicating with them, and finding out what they are about is a crucial key to successful teamwork, a successful school. I am going to continue do my best to post something about the special people involved at Shepherd Public schools.

Today I want to present you with an unsung hero who tends to go unnoticed…

Picture
Mrs. Dottie Mepham, Shepherd Public Schools Assistant Librarian and After School Tutor who also is the Coach for Quiz Bowl and an Advisor for the Class of 2015.

Dottie has been here for the past five years (actually more because she substituted here also).  She graduated from Central Michigan University with an Associate in Education including a B.S. in Education and a B. S. in History.  She has taught courses in History and Biology.  Currently in her position as Media Aide Dottie is responsible for such things as instructing after school online courses using APEX, guiding Media Aide & Office Aide classes, running the Destiny library system, helping with PowerSchool including entering grades for students, administering Star Testing, developing & maintaining Moodle courses, and assisting with all sorts of technology issues from printers to computers to phone issues on a daily basis.  She is one busy woman who keeps the media center in tip top working order.

She is married to her husband, Steve and has one son, Ian.  They also have other family members, Kira, their crazy German Shorthair Pointer, and two cats, Inky & Shadow.

In her spare time Dottie enjoys crafting such as knitting, crocheting, and sewing, along with gardening her vegetables and flowers including preserving some from her all organic garden.  Cooking all these great veggies along with other dishes is another one her favorites.  She also plays French Horn in the Central Michigan Area Concert Band and even finds some time for camping in the summer.

Mrs. Mepham says her claim to fame is her and her husband have seen almost all of the lighthouses and waterfalls in the State of Michigan.

When asked who inspires her, Dottie replied, “Danielle Marsh inspires me because she has many qualities that I try to emulate.  She is an awesome teacher who strives to make her classroom the best it can be by doing what is best for the students.  She understands kids and is thoughtful of what is going on in their lives and their feelings.  She is considerate and never forgets to give thank you notes or gifts.  She is very organized, dresses well, eats what is good for her, and is all around an awesome person.”

Dottie Mepham is here at Shepherd for the right reasons… she loves helping the students be the best they can be… and she loves doing it…

Thank you Dottie for all the hard work and dedication you bring to your profession.

Remember, I am going to do my best to post something about the special people involved at Shepherd Public schools. Look for it the first Sunday of each month.

In a world of test scores, content standards & benchmarks, and evaluation fears, sometimes the main purpose can be pushed aside, even forgotten.  That is the kids.  Plain and simple they are the heart of what we do.  Let me be the reminder...
